Ladies Club
Lady Captain Bernie's Prize day, sponsored by Pamela Nugent, took place on Saturday last. We had 52 players, between the 18 Hole, 9 Hole and Junior Girls 9 Hole competitions. We had a very blustery day and it was hard to decipher if the wind was a help or a hindrance, otherwise it was lovely dry, warm day. The course was in fantastic condition and there was a number of exceptional scores returned on what is the biggest day of the year in the ladies calendar. That evening we had a lovely meal in the restaurant served up by James and his staff.

Following the meal, Lady President Laura introduced her mother, Lady Captain Bernie with a few words about her life up to now, from her very fruitful sporting career to her dedication and hard working ethic that she puts into everything she does. She commended her on her exceptional year as Lady Captain and complimented her on her fantastic prize table.

Lady Captain then gave her speech, which was straight from her heart. Having captained many camogie teams over the years, she explained how being asked to be Lady Captain of Birr Golf Club and fulfilling the roll this year was the highest honour out of all she has done. She thanked her husband Ollie for his ongoing support, to her daughters Laura for being her rock during the year as Lady President, Pamela who sponsored all the prizes for the day and Marcella for taking the photos. She then thanked the ladies committee and especially Bríd Guinan for all she has done as Competition Secretary this year. There was a cake brought out to celebrate Theresa Fealy big birthday and the crowd sang happy birthday and wished her well. Lady Captain Bernie then continued by congratulating all the prizewinners and thanked the junior girls for playing and for coming out to the presentation. She thanked James, Kathleen and staff in the restaurant and Francie in the bar for always helping when asked. She thanked the ladies committee for the wine at the meal and then finished off by wishing the Juniors the very best of luck in the Golfsixes All Ireland Final on Sunday 22nd September. Following the speeches Bríd proceeded with the results and presentation of prizes and Willie Madden then gave out the bookies money. Lady President Laura thanked both Seamie Breen and Willie Madden for doing the bookies. After the presentation there was a great night had in the bar and on the dance floor when we were entertained by the very talented Joe Casey. It is safe to say that the day and night was most enjoyable to all who played golf and attended the days celebrations.
