The Glenns Trophy

Birr Golf Club hosted last Wednesday, 5th October the annual Glenns Trophy Competition. This is a great day every year for the ladies branch and a huge effort was made by the organizing committee of Lady President Gemma Butler, Ann McIntyre and Vera Smyth to ensure this day to be one of the best days of the year in the Glenns. We are most grateful to our generous sponsor Peter Fox Pharmacy again this year who has sponsored this competition since it commenced. It was also very fitting that Mona was present as the Mona Collins Perpetual Trophy was lifted by the Rathdowney ladies for the first time!. To all the volunteering ladies on the day who turned out to help it was really appreciated. Representing Birr ladies on the day were: Lady Capt Rita, Elizabeth Pardy, Mary Byrne and Therese Feeley who were very narrowly beaten out of third place.  The results are as follows:

1st Place – Rathdowney 68 points – Marie Duggan, Mary Harte, Nora Harte & Teresa Norton

2nd Place – Thurles 64 points – Rose Moloney, Mary Phelan, Margaret Corcoran & Jacquie Hennessy

3rd Place – Tipperary 63 points – Ena Gleeson, Bridget O’Brien, Josephine Kilmartin & Claire Ryan

1st Pair – Borris – 36 points – Margaret Collins & Kathy Mitchell

2nd Pair – Portumna – 35 points – Bridget Doggennet & Mabel Conroy

The members extend deepest sympathy to Lena Guinan and her family on the death of her mother May Gavigan in Tyrellspass at the weekend.
