Club Classic

Our Annual Club Classic takes place on July 30/31 and on Monday 1 August. As this is our main fund-raising competition during the year, members are asked to help out in every way possible by entering teams, sponsoring tees or holes or contributing prizes. A sub committee has been set up and all details will be available shortly.



Volunteers are asked to come along and help with strimming, grass cutting and general tidying up on Wed.6 July between the hours of 5 to 9. All help gratefully accepted.

Inter Club

Heartiest congratulations to our team on winning the Midland Senior trophy. The team under managers Francie Horan and Michael Ashe returned an excellent 149 points which was 6 better than Tullamore. Playing for Birr were: Billy Donlon/John Gilmartin, Pat Doyle/Christy McGarry, Tim Kenny/Arthur Joyce, Tony McTague/Tom Wright, Michael Ashe/Tom King and John O’Meara/Tom King.

Best of luck to the Tudenham Cup team under manager Tom Rigney who play Moyvalley  this Thursday at 4pm. The team is: At home are Brendan Hogan/John Dwyer, Tony McCormack/Gavin Young and Bernard Kennedy.Simon Hogan. Away are:Tom Rigney/Kevin McNamara and  Roddy Molloy/Pat Maher.

McGuirk Trophy. Well done to convenor Michael Yates on an excellently run McGuirk Trophy competition for ex Captains and Presidents of the Club.  There was a large turnout on the day and all enjoyed the golf and beautiful meal in the evening. Music and entertainment were provided by John Campbell with many members joining in the ceól and craic.

Open Weekend

n Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th we have an Open Two Day Event – Team of two – any combination very kindly sponsored by Hugo Loonam Motors Cloghan.   An ideal opportunity to invite members from other clubs to play in the Glenns.   Timesheet in operation.

Lady Captain’s Prize

With only three weeks to go to Lady Captain Rita Delaney’s Day, plans are now at an advanced stage with Rita and her committee working hard behind the scenes to ensure this is a wonderful weekend of golf and loads of fun for all.   Keep in mind the requirement of the three cards to be eligible and a list is now posted for your attention.  Lists are also available for competition entry and also for the Lady Captain’s Dinner on the 23rd.

Irish Seniors Close Championship

Congratulations to our Lady President Gemma Butler who took part in the Irish Seniors Close Championship in Adare Manor last week.   Gemma got off to a flying start on Tuesday and Wednesday and had two wonderful rounds recording an 81 and 83 respectively qualifying her to play in the matchplay in the Plate Trophy.   In the quarter finals on Wednesday afternoon Gemma beat Adare’s Bríd Naughton 3/2 to secure a semi-final place on Thursday morning.   Gemma was facing Gertie McMullen from The Island in the semi-final but after a superb match Gertie qualified for the afternoon’s final and went on to beat her opponent Sinead Heraty 3/2 in the afternoon.   Congratulations Lady President Gemma on this impressive display of golf and a huge personal achievement.
