Mini Classic

Our very popular mini-classic takes place on next Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday. This competition is run in aid of club funds and has been very well supported over the past few years. There is a time sheet in operation and members and visitors alike are asked to arrange their own times or  ring 057 9120082 for a booking.

Presentations

Lady Captain Rita Delaney introduced Presidents Gemma and Tony who presented their prizes to the men and ladies respectively. They thanked all who played and congratulated the winners Pat Gleeson and President Gemma Captain Rita thanked  Hassetts Topline of Crinkill and Banagher for their sponsorship of Open Week, Caroline McCarthy for her sopnsorship of the Member’s prize and Michael Horan for his sponsorship of the O’Dowd trophy. Special mention was made of Matt Feenane who returned a 60 nett, a club record in the Member’s prize.

Congratulations

Heartiest congratulations to Billy Donlon who won the Dr. W.M. O’Sullivan trophy for the over 60s in the Senior’s Irish Open in Rosslare last week. Billy, no stranger to the winner’s enclosure, represented Ireland in the Senior’s Internationals last year and is an Honorary Member of our Club.

Offaly Hurlers.  President Declan Hanniffy’s Prize. Coolderry proved to be the form team on the day with Noel Lyons, Des Dooley, Brian Doyle and Flan Lyons scoring 114 pts. Special mention must go to Flan who played great golf off a 9 handicap.  In second place with 109 pts. were Carrig and Riverstown represnted by Liam O’Brien, Jim Cashen, Padraig Freeman and Denis Hoctor who relegated Seir Kierans into 3rd place also on 109pts on a count back. Seir Kierans lined out with Seamas Coakley,Seanie Bergin, Brendan Coughlan and Christy Purcell.

Inter Club

Congratulations to the O’Moore Cup team on winning their match v Mountrath on Sunday. The team under managers Brian Gunan and Liam Delaney was: at home: Liam Coughlan, Miley Nolan and Coleman Loughnane. Away were: Pat Scully, Seamas Coakley, Eamonn Moore and Brendan O’Carroll.

Also to the Shield team who defeated Castlebarna on Saturday under managers Tom King and Alan Naylor. At home were; Thady Clancy and Ollie Nolan. Away were: Christy McGarry,Peter Hoare and Daryl Lowry.

Best of luck to the Provincial Town’s team who play The Heritage  next Saturday at 4pm. The team under managers Seamas Breen and Tony McTague is: (Home) Pat Madden, Brendan Hoare, Andy Masterson and John Irwin.  Away are: PJ Lowry, Pat Doyle, Tomas Moylan, Christy Purcell and Matt Feenane

Presidents Prize to the Members. Presidents’ Mixed Scramble. The very popular Presidents’ Mixed Scramble continues each Monday evening from 5.00 p.m.

Club Mini-Classic. The second Mini-Classic takes place on the upcoming bank holiday weekend  5th and 6th June.  An ideal opportunity to invite your golfing friends from the surrounding clubs to play in the Glenns.  Your support much appreciated.

A.A. Team News. As promised we hope to keep you up to date on upcoming fixtures in the A.A. Club Matches.

The Junior Foursomes secured a superb win over Moate  in Portarlington on Wednesday 25th May. Team Captain Mary Ryan was delighted with the performance of Mary Grennan/Mary Sullivan, Evelyn Lynch/Kathleen Doorley, Annette Kenny/Lady Capt Rita Delaney.   They will be playing Abbeyleix in the quarter final at a later date.

The Challenge Cup team play Tullamore in Mount Temple on Monday 30th May – Team Captain Liz Pardy results next week.

The Junior Cup Team were beaten by a stronger Abbeyleix on the day last Monday 23rd in Roscrea with Anne Frawley taking charge.  Thanks to all team members for giving their time and commitment to this team.

The Diageo Mixed Team played the first round against Mount Temple on last Saturday 28th May with the Presidents Tony and Gemma in charge. 3 pairs away and 4 at home unfortunately we were second on the day with Mount Temple taking the last match in Birr to secure a win.  Thanks to all members for playing and giving their time to this team over the past few weeks.

The Irish Mixed Foursomes next round against The Heritage has been fixed for Wednesday the 1st June with 3 pairs away and 2 at home. Best of luck to this team and hope they do the business on the day against a fancied Heritage team.

Sympathy

Deepest sympathy is extended to Seamas Barnes and his family on the death of his sister Patsy Jackson in Manchester last week.
