Golfing in the Glenns 30 Nov 2010

The Annual General Meeting of the Club took place on Sunday last. Despite the unfavourable weather conditions there was a good turnout of members to discuss and analyse the Club’s progress over the previous year. Members were welcomed by Chairman Bernard Kennedy who thanked all for their attendance on such a cold and frosty evening.
Hon. Sec. Tony Hogan reported on the happenings within the Club and noted that all competitions took place during the year without interruption and he was glad to note that the new lands held up very well and got very favourable comments from members and visitors alike. Fund raising events such as classics, scrambles, poker and a table quiz were held throughout the year and were very well supported by the members. He informed the members that Frank Kearns was in the process of setting up a new website which should be ready before Christmas.
Hon. Treas. David McDowell in a comprehensive report noted the difficulty of balancing the books in these recessionary times. It was decided to retain the entry fee for new golfers at last year’s rate of €450 plus bar/food levy of €50. Family membership will be €750 plus €50.
The following were elected to serve with the ex officio officers on the Management Committee for 2011: Liam Delaney, Kathleen Doorley, Ann Frawley, John Irwin, Bernard Kennedy, Ann McIntyre & Bernadette McTague. Ex Officio: Captains Joe Slevin/Rita Delaney, Presidents Tony McTague/Gemma Butler. Vice Captains Seamas Breen/Vera Smyth with Hon. Sec Tony Hogan and Hon.Treas. David McDowell.
Several items came up for discussion including reversing the nines. Members felt we should retain the present arrangement but the removal of one of the hills to the left of the first tee might be considered. Chairman Bernard said he was proud to have captained the club, thanked all for their help during the year and wished incoming Captains Joe Slevin and Rita Delaney and Presidents Tony McTague and Gemma Butler every success during 2011.
