Golfing in the Glenns 16 Nov 2010

Captains Bernard Kennedy and Kathleen Doorley were feted and honoured by the members at the annual dinner on Saturday night. Presidents Doreen McKenna and David McDowell in introducing the Captains spoke of their dedicated and unselfish work for the Club throughout the year. The Presidents stressed the huge amount of time devoted to the running of the Club by both Captains. In reply Kathleen thanked all the members for making her year so enjoyable. She noted that it was an honour to work for such a fine club with members who were second to none. She wanted to join in thanking our caterer Cathal McIntyre and his staff for their professionalism and high standards. We were all sorry that Cathal was leaving and he was wished every success for the future. She extended best wishes to incoming Captains Rita Delaney and Joe Slevin.

Captain Bernard in a witty and entertaining speech emphasised how important it was to have the support of the members and especially of his family who often wondered what went on at the innumerable meetings he attended. He thanked the sponsors, the course and house staff and pointed out that we had one of the most beautiful courses in the country. Even though money was scarce he was convinced that we would ride out this recession and thanked Hon.Treas. David McDowell for keeping a close watch on our finances.

Incoming Captain Joe Slevin who acted as MC for the evening, thanked Cathal McIntyre for all his work and presented him with a token of our appreciation. Cathal in reply said how much he enjoyed working in The Glenns and praised the members for their courtesy towards himself and his staff.

Golfers of the Year Angie Hough and Jerome Molloy were presented with their mementoes and trophies.

After an excellent meal, lively conversation, good music and dancing the festivities continued into the small hours. Congratulations and well done to the House Committee who organised the function.
